The wonderful ceremonial cacao
Ceremonial cacao has been used for thousands of years as food and for ceremonies. The use of cacao in ceremonial contexts has been dated back to 2000 BC. It is made from raw cacao beans of the Criollo variety. This variety of cacao beans is very rare because it is the most difficult to cultivate and therefore also the most expensive variety.
The delicious Criollo cacao beans are harvested, fermented, and sun-dried. This is done for all types of chocolates and cacaos. But the difference here is that what makes Camille's Cacao Love ceremonial grade is that it is the pure, raw cacao bean mass created from the beans โ and nothing else.
With chocolate and cacao powder, even "raw," the product often goes through a more extensive processing, where the fat is separated from the rest of the cacao bean mass โ only to be added back in desired quantities or replaced with other types of fat.

In some places, ceremonial cacao is still developed using an ancient fermentation process. The beans are removed from their hard shells and placed in a kind of "sweat lodge," where they remain for several days, fermenting in the heat. Afterwards, the beans are spread out in the sun to dry. From there, they are either sold to local markets or distributed directly to chocolate producers, where they are roasted, crushed, pressed, and kneaded to make chocolate.
The nature of cacao is associated by many with sensuality, presence, pleasure, and connection. Throughout history, cacao has been used in ceremonial and cultural contexts, where people gathered for rituals, community, rites of passage, and life's big moments.

The cacao is sun-dried instead of roasted
The ceremonial cacao you order from me is sun-dried instead of roasted. Many prefer this method because the natural character, flavor nuances, and raw expression of the cacao are preserved in a more gentle way.
ย
What is the difference between regular cacao powder and ceremonial cacao?
Regular cacao powder is more processed than ceremonial cacao. Even when cacao is raw, it has often gone through processes where parts of the cacao's natural fat and fibers are separated from the rest of the bean.
Ceremonial cacao, on the other hand, consists of the entire cacao bean mass, providing a richer, creamier, and more intense experience of cacao in its original form.
Many experience ceremonial cacao as softer and more grounded in its energy and choose it as part of calm rituals, creative processes, or mindful moments.
ย
Does ceremonial cacao contain caffeine?
There is often some confusion about cacao and caffeine. Cacao naturally contains very small amounts of caffeine but is particularly known for its content of theobromine โ a naturally occurring substance in the cacao bean.
Many describe the experience of ceremonial cacao as gentler and more grounding compared to coffee. However, the experience can vary from person to person depending on quantity, sensitivity, and how the cacao is consumed.
Therefore, many also choose to enjoy cacao slowly and with plenty of fluids alongside it as part of the ritual.
ย
Vitamins and minerals
Cacao naturally contains magnesium, manganese, iron, zinc, potassium, and copper, among others.

For many, ceremonial cacao is not only a taste experience but also a way to create more presence, slowness, and connection in everyday life.
ย
Endorphins & serotonin
Many people associate ceremonial cacao with feelings of well-being, warmth, creativity, and connection.
Throughout time, cacao has been valued in ceremonial traditions for its ability to bring people together and create space for reflection, presence, and inner connection.
For some, cacao becomes a ritual that invites stillness, contemplation, creativity, or a softer connection to the body and the energetic heart.
