Douglas Fir – the forest's fresh, purifying power

Douglas Fir is an impressive evergreen conifer originating from North America. dōTERRA uses needles and small branches from young Douglas Fir trees in New Zealand, where the species grows so aggressively that it threatens the local ecosystem. The trees are harvested before they produce cones, and native tree species are planted in their place.

The oil is interesting because it's not just a classic "forest scent". dōTERRA highlights it for its purifying applications, its use in skincare, and its ability to create an uplifting environment.

Scent Profile

Fresh, green, and woody with a slight sweetness and a delicate citrus note. It evokes the characteristic feeling of moving through a fresh coniferous forest, but with a lighter and more citrusy side.

• Uplifting: Douglas Fir is specifically highlighted by dōTERRA for promoting a positive mood. It is therefore ideal for rooms where you want to create a fresher and more energetic atmosphere – for example, in the morning, in the office, or when concentration needs to be regained.

• Freshness and focus: The combination of the coniferous tree's green character and the light citrus note makes Douglas Fir particularly suitable with citrus oils. dōTERRA recommends it, for instance, with Wild Orange and Lemon or Bergamot to refresh the air, lift the mood, and create a sense of focus.

• For a new beginning: Douglas Fir has a clean and clear character, which makes it excellent when a room or a moment needs to be "reset". Use it after cleaning, before work or creative immersion, or when you simply want to change the atmosphere around you.

Physiological properties and practical application

• Purifying for the skin: dōTERRA describes Douglas Fir as an oil with purifying properties. You can therefore add one drop to facial cleanser, soap, or shower gel to give the product an extra botanical dimension.

• For home surfaces: Douglas Fir can also be used as part of natural cleaning. dōTERRA recommends, among other things, adding 1–2 drops to a cloth before wiping kitchen counters or tabletops.

• For massage: Douglas Fir can be diluted in a carrier oil and used in massage. dōTERRA suggests it, among other things, with Wintergreen for a relaxing massage experience after a long day at work.

How to use it

• Add 1 drop to your facial cleanser, soap, or shower gel.
• Add 1–2 drops to a cloth for cleaning kitchen counters and other surfaces.
• Diffuse it alone or with Wild Orange and Lemon/Bergamot, as the uplifting oils provide a good blend of Douglas Fir undertones.
• Mix 5 drops with approx. 10 ml carrier oil for massage.
• Mix 5 drops with approx. 5 ml carrier oil for bathing.
• Use 1 drop with 10 drops of carrier oil as a personal fragrance.
