New Year's Ritual with Cacao & Oracle Cards - Farewell to the Year
New Year's Ritual - farewell to the year to honor what was, and to make space for what is to come
A word about December and transition
Many experience December as a space filled with anticipation, traditions, and coziness – but also with pressure and busyness. When we give ourselves space for the simple things – to choose presence over the idea of coziness – it gains double power: both in external magic and internal well-being.
Each year offers the opportunity for rituals such as cacao & oracle cards. It can create a gentle framework to ground yourself, reflect on the past year, and make space for nurturing intentions for the new year ahead.
You can share the ritual with those you love — or embrace it in complete solitude, alone.
Why the ritual works
1. The body's language
Ceremonial cacao helps you to feel in your body — not just think the answers in your mind, but feel them in your body. The mild bitterness, aromas, and warmth from cacao can gently support you in going deeper and opening your heart space.
2. The heart's wisdom
Oracle cards provide a visual and intuitive space for you to open yourself to your own inner voice – which can be harder to hear in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It offers an easier entry into your subconscious and that which is not always so easily discovered within you.
3. Combined effect
Together, cacao and oracle cards create a deeper healing: emotions are put into perspective, the old is gently released, and you gain better clarity and space for the new.
Ritual: Step by step
Make your ceremonial cacao with presence and intention. Let each step be your ritual. Perhaps the ingredients come with an intention. Rose petals for gentleness. Blue lotus for clarity. Sesame for abundance? Let yourself be guided or make your cacao as simply as possible.
3. Meditate and ingest
Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Taste the cacao, feel the scent, and let your body guide you. Let the cacao move you. Everything that happens now is guidance from the cacao. What comes to you in your inner self, your mind, your body? Know that nothing specific needs to happen. Can you allow yourself to be open and not anticipate, but simply be?
4. Write down these questions, draw cards for each question, for example
- What are you grateful for in the past year?
- What do you want to release with love and leave in this year?
- What do you want to carry forward from this year and bring into the new one?
- What intentions nurture you for the coming year?
I love to summarize the coming year with a few words. Often it becomes 2-3 words that become my anchor for the year.
Because imagine that in this way you can check in with yourself whether you, your actions, thoughts, beliefs are still in alignment with your intention for the year.
