The Physiological Properties of Cacao

Cacao's nature is deeply sensual and is associated by many with presence, pleasure, ritual, and an openness in body and mind.
Throughout history, it has been part of ceremonial contexts, where it was used in connection with sexuality, life transitions, birth (where cacao was used in ceremonial contexts in some traditions), desire, pleasure, ecstasy, bliss, and a feeling of connectedness.

The Experience of Cacao in the Body

Many experience cacao as a drink that invites a soft and sensual feeling in the body.
When cacao is part of a ritual, some describe an experience of warmth, calm, well-being, and a more present connection to oneself.

Endorphins are often associated with the body's natural "feel-good" experiences.
Many describe cacao as part of moments where they can settle into their body and feel a lightness or satisfaction.

Presence, Atmosphere, and Inner Experience

Cacao is associated by many with an experience of presence, inner calm, and emotional openness.

It naturally contains compounds like serotonin and dopamine, which in the body are known from research in relation to mood and well-being.
In ceremonial contexts, many experience cacao as a support for deep reflection, creativity, and presence.

Experience of Focus and Presence

Cacao naturally contains compounds such as dopamine and phenylethylamine (PEA), which in the body are known in relation to motivation, infatuation, and the experience of joy and connectedness.

Many associate cacao with rituals where focus, presence, and sensuality become more prominent.

The Love Chemical

Phenylethylamine (PEA) is naturally found in cacao and is often referred to as the "love chemical".

It is associated with the experience of infatuation, joy, and openness in the body.
In ceremonial contexts, many describe cacao as part of rituals where the heart and senses feel more open and receptive.

PEA is a naturally occurring substance in cacao that is sensitive to heat and is therefore particularly associated with raw and minimally processed cacao.

Vitamins, Minerals, and Natural Compounds

Cacao naturally contains minerals such as magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and potassium.

Many value cacao for its rich and complex nutritional profile and as part of a varied and conscious approach to food.

Magnesium is one of the most commonly occurring minerals in cacao and plays a role in many of the body's natural processes.

Antioxidants

Cacao is naturally rich in flavonoids and antioxidants.

These are linked in research to the natural properties of plant-based foods and are part of cacao's complex composition and deep flavor profile.
